U.S. continues Burundian troop support (May 23, 2015)

May 23, 2015

The United States continues to support Burundian troops currently in Mogadishu under AMISOM. Due to security concerns inside Burundi, the United States has temporarily halted peacekeeping training activities, such as the Africa Contingency Operations Training and Assistance (ACOTA) program. Pursuant to Leahy Law requirements, training and assistance was suspended to some individual units pending an investigation into the reports of extra-judicial killings in Cibitoke province in late December and early January of 2015. No development assistance has been suspended.
