U.S. Citizen Services

If you are a U.S. Citizen in Burundi and need help returning to the U.S., please click here.

Note:  Because of a staff shortage, the U.S. Embassy cannot at this time provide a regular schedule of services for visas, and routine services for U.S. citizens are limited (passports, reports of birth abroad, and notarials).  We will continue to handle all emergency services for U.S. citizens.  For urgent, time-sensitive visa requests (students returning to classes in the U.S., medical and humanitarian emergencies, etc.), please email BujumburaC@state.gov for more information.  Until we are back to full staffing, please also continue to check https://evisaforms.state.gov/acs/default.asp?postcode=BUJ&appcode=1  for the availability of regular appointments, which will be added on a limited basis.

The Consular Section offers routine U.S. Citizen Services on Mondays, including new passport issuance, notary services, and consular reports of birth abroad. Always bring your U.S. passport when visiting the Embassy. Appointments can only be booked online. Click here to book an appointment.

The Consular Section is closed to the public on the second and last Monday of each month for administrative business. The Consular Section is only able to provide emergency services on administrative days. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.
