Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Heightened Security Situation (July 10, 2015)

Friday, July 10, 2015

In light of the potential for violence related to the ongoing Burundian national election cycle, the U.S. Embassy in Bujumbura has instituted a 10:00 p.m. curfew for its personnel. We recommend U.S. citizens exercise caution, maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance their personal security.

U.S. citizens who have decided to stay in Burundi despite the Burundi Travel Warning issued on May 14 should regularly review their personal security situation and seriously consider departing, taking advantage of commercial flights.

Please contact us at BujumburaC@state.gov if you need assistance departing Burundi so that we may assess potential options for assisting you.
