Stephanie Bunce, a career member of the Foreign Service, has been Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Bujumbura, Burundi, since July 2020. She most recently served in Washington, D.C., as Director of the Bureau of Consular Affair’s Leadership, Management, and Innovation Initiative.
From 2013-2016, Ms. Bunce served as Consular Country Coordinator for Mission Australia. Her previous assignments include Consular Section Chief in Sana’a, Yemen, Deputy Director of Consular Training at the Foreign Service Institute and Deputy Consular Section Chief in Damascus, Syria. Additional overseas tours include Accra and Bucharest.
Ms. Bunce is a 2019 graduate of the National War College in Washington, DC, and she holds a BA in history from James Madison University. She was born and raised in the Washington, DC area.
